Knowing the type of Green Tea

People may know Japanese Tea as green tea. Unfortunately, the green tea is not only one type. There are several varieties of green tea. We may learn to know it because they are different but they look the same.

  • Gyokuro

Gyokuro is the highest grade tea. The characteristic of this type of green tea is dark color and rich. Besides that, it is lightly sweet flavor. The taste comes from the growth process. The tea leaves are being grown completely in the shade.

  • Matcha

Matcha is the fine ground of green tea. The leaves are grown under the shade. That kind of leaves becomes the prior in the harvest. The light green varieties of the a will give a sweeter taste. On the other hand, the dark matcha has a stronger taste.

  • Sencha

Sencha is the most popular green tea and it is the high-quality one. This kind of green tea is made with leaves from the first harvest. From this kind of leave, the tea will have a delicate flavor with a hint of astringency.

  • Genmaicha

Genmaicha is the green tea which is made with medium quality tea. It is combined with roasted brown rice and tea leaves. Besides that, it has a slightly nutty, mild flavor.

  • Hojicha

Hojicha is made from tea leaves and stems. They are roasted and the process makes this tea have a brownish color. Besides that, this green tea has a strong flavor but it has low caffeine level.

  • Kukicha

Kukicha is the green tea which is made from stems of tea plant leaf over from making other teas. Even though this type of green tea is made from leftover, this green tea has a clean and light flavor.

  • Bancha

Bancha is made with tougher leaves. The leaves come from the second harvest. Besides that, this type of tea is the one that made for everyday consumption. Then, this green tea type has less fragrant but more astringent.
